About this

Each water is taken from an official list (classified waters, principal salmon rivers, district fishery boards, Fish & Game and Inland Fisheries lists) with the page it came from. 175 carry a live gauge verified to answer within 48 hours; readings stay metric with imperial alongside. Species appear only where the agency page names them.

How these pages are built

About this

2,852 rivers, creeks, tailwaters, lakes and flats in 50 states: every water with an official agency designation, every water the guides and shops in our directories name on their own websites, the tailwaters, and the rivers with live USGS gauges. Each page shows the live flow where a gauge exists, the dam release below TVA, Corps and Reclamation dams, the state’s regulations and access map, and the guides and shops near the water. Nothing here grants access or predicts the fishing.

Waters earn a page in three ways: the state agency lists them under an official designation (Blue Ribbon, Gold Medal, Class A, Wild Trout, Delayed Harvest, catch-and-release, trout park, tailwater and the like, each shown with the agency’s own list), the guides and shops in our directories name them on their own websites, or a live USGS gauge sits on a river a guide names. Positions come from USGS gauges and the USGS Geographic Names Information System; flows from USGS gauges matched by name; rules and access maps from the state agencies. Species and seasons appear only where an agency page states them. “Most fished first” ranks by designations and by how many guide and shop websites name the water, not by anyone’s opinion.
