May–Sep (salmon)
Where the season comes from

Veiðitími á laxi er heimilaður (samkvæmt 17. gr laga nr 61. um lax- og silungsveiði frá 2006) í allt að 105 daga á tímabilinu 20. maí til 30. september.

Our translation: Salmon fishing is permitted (under Art. 17 of Act no. 61/2006 on salmon and trout fishing) for up to 105 days within the period 20 May to 30 September.

Set for Iceland as a whole, not this water by name. Each river's own dates, within this legal window, are set by its fishing association.

Exceptions on the page:

  • Fiskistofu er heimilt er að framlengja, með undanþágu, þann tíma í allt að 120 daga og allt til 31. október ár hvert, að fenginni umsögn Veiðimálastofnunar. Þessi heimild miðast við ár þar sem veiði byggist fyrst og fremst á stofnum sem viðhaldið er með sleppingum gönguseiða.
Our translation: Fiskistofa may, by exemption, extend that period to up to 120 days and up to 31 October each year, after an opinion from the Institute of Freshwater Fisheries. This applies to rivers whose fishing rests mainly on stocks maintained by smolt releases (the 2024 MFRI report names Ytri-Rangá and Eystri-Rangá as smolt-release rivers, but no page gives their dates).
  • Lax skal vera friðaður fyrir allri veiði í a.m.k 84 stundir í viku hverri.
Our translation: Salmon must be protected from all fishing for at least 84 hours every week.

Fish these in the US

About this

Matched on the fish the agencies list for both waters first, then the same water type, an official designation or flagship listing on both, and a similar mapped size where USGS hydrography covers both.

At most two waters per country. A shared fish is a listing, not a promise: presence varies by reach and season.
