The River Liffey is a freestone river in Counties Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow, Ireland. Inland Fisheries Ireland lists it as a wild brown trout river (East) and a salmon and sea trout water (East). Inland Fisheries Ireland's 2026 Wild Salmon and Sea Trout Tagging Scheme lists it as a closed salmon fishery. Trout fishing is from Celbridge to Ballymore Eustace (Co. Kildare) and from Islandbridge to Lucan (Dublin). The Upper and Lower Liffey are closed to salmon and sea trout (over 40 cm) angling under the 2026 tagging scheme. Also called An Life.
Nothing on this page grants or implies access: check the agency map, posted signs and landowner permission before you fish. Most waters here need a rod licence or permit and often a beat booking or club ticket; the listing pages under Regulations say which.

Listed by the agency
Matched on the fish the agencies list for both waters first, then the same water type, an official designation or flagship listing on both, and a similar mapped size where USGS hydrography covers both.
At most two waters per country. A shared fish is a listing, not a promise: presence varies by reach and season.
