TAKE CARE ON THE WATER

Good days start with good judgment.

Check access, weather, water levels and regulations, and handle fish with care.

Rivers can be cold, powerful and change quickly. Plan around conditions and your own ability, and make a conservative choice when the water or access is uncertain.

SECTION 01Plan for conditions

Check weather, daylight, river flows, road conditions and access notices before leaving. Tell someone where you plan to go. Wear a wading belt with waders, use a staff when appropriate, and avoid crossing water you cannot safely evaluate.

SECTION 02Follow current rules and access

Confirm fishing seasons, license requirements, tackle rules, closures and legal public access through the relevant state agency and land manager. A map pin or nearby road does not by itself establish permission to enter or fish.

SECTION 03Handle fish thoughtfully

Use wet hands, keep fish in the water when practical, minimize handling time, and release them gently. Follow local harvest rules and use tackle appropriate to the fish so the fight does not become unnecessarily long.
