Good days, shared well.

The community exists so one angler’s day can help the next one. These are the few rules that keep it useful and safe, and what we do when something goes wrong.

What to share

Trip stories, short reports, gear that worked (or did not), questions, and the shop or guide that helped. Say what happened and what the next person should know. Tag a water, a fly shop or a guide when it fits; the tag links to that listing.

Keep exact fishing spots general. Name the river or the reach, not the hole. Private water, private access and anyone else’s honey hole stay private.

Not allowed

  • Harassment or hate. No attacks on people, no slurs, no threats, no unwanted contact (see below).
  • Other people’s private details. No addresses, phone numbers, plates, or photos of people who did not agree to be posted.
  • Spam and undisclosed advertising. Shops, guides and makers are welcome as themselves. Say who you are; do not post as a customer.
  • Impersonation. Do not pose as another angler, a business or Legendary Fly Gear.
  • Unsafe or illegal content. Poaching, trespass, out-of-season or over-limit catches presented as a tip, and anything illegal where it happened.
  • Content you do not own. Post your own words and photos. Do not republish a report, article or photograph from somewhere else.

Who sees what

Every post has an audience you choose before publishing: Public, Followers, Friends or Only me. Public trip stories and short reports also get their own page on Fish Tales, which anyone can read and search engines can index. Followers-only, friends-only and private posts never leave the feed and are never indexed.

You choose public or private when you sign up; private is the default. Change it any time in profile settings; a private profile cannot be followed or friended, and only you can see it. Your email address is never shown anywhere.

Photos

Up to four JPEG, PNG or WebP photos per post, 8 MB each, with a description for people who cannot see them. Before a photo is stored, location, camera and editing metadata (Exif, including GPS, XMP and IPTC) is removed on our server. Photos live in private storage; public story photos are served from a public address only while the story stays public.

Reporting, blocking and moderation

Every post, comment and profile has a menu with Report. Choose a reason and add detail if it helps. Reports go to a person on the Legendary Fly Gear team; the member you report is not told who reported them.

Block any member from the same menu. You and a blocked member cannot see each other’s posts, comments or profiles; blocking also ends any follow between you. You can unblock from your community dashboard.

When a report is upheld, the content is hidden and the author is notified in their notifications. Repeated or serious problems can lead to a profile being hidden or removed.

Restrooms near the water

Members rate restrooms near our waters, add ones that aren't on the map, and share photos, so the next angler knows what to expect. To keep this trustworthy, contributions come from community members who are signed in, have confirmed their email address with us and have agreed to these guidelines.

  • Share: facts about the restroom (where it is, its type, fee, who can use it, step-free access, opening season) and how clean it was and whether it was open on the day you were there.
  • Photos: the restroom and its surroundings only. No people, faces or license plates. Every photo is checked by a person before it shows, and location data is removed.
  • We remove: personal attacks or offensive language, ads, links or phone numbers, and anything that directs people onto private land.
  • New members: your first 3 contributions are checked by a person before they show; after that your ratings appear straight away. Something hidden for breaking these rules means your next contributions are checked again.
  • Report: every rating, note, photo and member-added restroom has Report. Pick a reason; a person on the Legendary Fly Gear team reviews it. The person who shared it is never told who reported it. Items several members report are hidden until we have looked.

Unwanted contact and harassment

Nobody here owes anyone a reply, a follow or a trip. Repeated comments or mentions after someone has stopped answering, comments about a person's body or looks, sexual remarks, pressure to meet up, and turning up in someone's comments after being blocked elsewhere are harassment, whoever it is aimed at.

  • Block. From the menu on any post, comment or profile. Neither of you sees the other's posts, comments or profile, follows end, and a member blocked by a group's owner or moderator cannot ask to join that group.
  • Limit who can reach you. In profile settings choose who can comment on your posts and who can mention you: everyone, only people you follow, or nobody. The database checks this on every comment and mention. You can also hide your home region.
  • Report. Choose Harassment from the post, comment, profile or group menu and add what happened. A person on the Legendary Fly Gear team reads every report; the member you report is not told who reported them. Reports work the same on posts inside groups.
  • Something happened off the site, or you feel unsafe? Contact local police first. You can also send us the details through the support form.

Groups

Members can start groups: open to anyone, or by request with the owner or a moderator approving each member. A public group's public posts appear in the main feed with the group's name; a private group's posts are for members only. Owners and moderators can remove members and hide posts in their group; these guidelines apply in every group, and reports about a group or its posts come to us. A group can be for a particular community, for example women who fly fish; the site never asks anyone for their gender, so owners decide on requests.

Appeals and questions

If something of yours was hidden and you think that was wrong, use the appeal form and include the handle on your profile. A person reads every message, and you will get an answer by email.

To download everything stored about your account, or to delete it, open Privacy & your data. Deletion hides your posts, comments and likes at once and removes the account after a 7-day grace period in which you can change your mind.

Limits that keep the feed calm

To stop floods and scripted posting, each member can publish up to 20 posts an hour, 60 comments an hour, 60 follows an hour, 30 friend requests a day and send 10 reports a day. Real use never reaches these.
